Collecting Trashed Batteries
from the Street

begun Summer 2007

This Spring I began to notice batteries laying in the street and on sidewalks with disturbing regularity. Walking through downtown Pittsburgh, in my own neighborhood, or on my daily cycling commutes - once I began to think about the batteries, they seemed to be everywhere.

This June I began to collect these batteries as I find them, with the tentative goal to string them together in an attempt to power a small appliance (as of yet undetermined) or other sculptural element. I am currently working on a proposal that would situate this project within The Mobile Museum.

UPDATE - As of March, 2008, some of the batteries are starting to break down as I store them. I may not actually be able to keep a substantial amount long enough and in a stable enough setting to do anything with them...
